Gainesville Honors ‘Created Gainesville’ for National Human Trafficking Prevention Month

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) -January is National Human Trafficking Prevention Month. Created Gainesville is a local non-profit that has helped and restored the lives of women impacted by sex trafficking and sexual exploitation since 2012.

According to the Polaris Project nonprofit, Florida is ranked 3rd in the country for reported cases of human trafficking.

The City of Gainesville is recognizing its efforts to raise awareness about the issue of human trafficking and plans to combat it.

Founder Alison Ungaro joins TV20′s Alexus Goings on the morning show to share what this recognition does for the organization.

“This issue matters to us and we are willing to rally around this issue,” said Ungaro.” Organizations like Created Gainesville are doing something to combat not only in the prevention realm but also in the restorative care.”

This recognition aligns with Human Trafficking Prevention Month, a national observance focused on educating the public about human trafficking.

Gainesville city leaders will read a proclamation declaring this month as Human Trafficking Prevention Month and honor ‘Created Gainesville’ during the city commission meeting at 5:30 PM.
