Man fatally shot in chest outside Bronx apartment building

A man was fatally shot outside a Bronx apartment building early Tuesday, officials said.

Elvys Familia was blasted in the chest on Walton Ave. near E. 172nd St. in Mount Eden about 4:25 a.m., cops said. He is not related to slain NYPD Officer Miosotis Familia, as initially reported due to a misunderstanding with relatives. - New York Daily News

Overdose victim lies dead in NYPD holding cell for two hours: sources

A 52-year-old Bronx man held in a cell at the 40th Precinct stationhouse died of a suspected fentanyl overdose after a cellmate gave him the drug — and cops didn’t discover the body for two hours, sources tell the Daily News.

Malik Rahman was found in one of the holding cells at the stationhouse at 257 Alexander Ave. in Mott Haven on Aug. 25, police said. -New York Daily News

Recent Events

NYDIS and The Salvation Army collaborate to offer free, one-day Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) training for community & faith leaders. All training materials and a light breakfast are included. Participants may bring a brown bag lunch or eat out nearby during the lunch break. All participants who complete the training and short test receive a certificate that is valid for three years.
